SCHMIDT & BENDER SPEKTIV 15-60x 60mm VINTAGE SPOTTING SCOPE + SLIK VD TRIPOD

  
The GERMAN SCHMIDT and BENDER brand of optical equipment is still going today producing very high quality rifle scopes. For a relatively short time they produced an excellent 15-60 x 60 draw tube telescope or spotting scope. This was aimed mostly at target shooters, but hunters and bird watchers also would have found them highly usable and desirable. Very few were produced and hardly surprisingly they very rarely come on the open market. This example is in superb still boxed condition and produces superb images as one would expect from this high end instrument. There were a number of similar scopes made by German makers during the 60`s & 70`s; the televari from Hertel & Reuss and the Supra from Nickel were both good scopes, but the general consensus is that SCHMIDT & BENDER`s SPEKTIV scope was the best optically. I have tested this one checking out the birdlife in a very long field opposite my house and have no trouble in seeing plumage patterns of distant buzzards sitting on posts as they do!

I strongly suspect that my testing is the most significant use this scope has ever seen, it has spent its life in its leather case within the box both of which are in lovely condition. The optics are generally very clear, but shining a bright torch into the internals shows some very light fungal strands in the eyepiece area that`s annoying, but I can see no evidence of this having any impact on the view out. The draw tubes have good equal resistance, the zoom control is rather stiff from lack of use I guess.

Additionally, the optional rubber fold down eyecup is still present it looks unused. There are no lens caps I don`t think SCHMIDT & BENDER supplied them with these scopes.

I have twinned this scope with an immensely solid and very smart SLIK EASI GLIDE VD tripod, which is of a similar vintage and has an absurdly high maximum working height of 192 cm approx. I take great care examining, using and describing the scopes and binoculars i sell, and always get a second opinion.
